Cisco's Communication Servers are low-cost, high-performance LANcommunications processors, providing intercommunication to multivendorsystems supporting the DOD TCP/IP protocols. Communication Server canact as a terminal server, or a host frontend, managing port selection,contention, and flow control. An optional printer interface isavailable.The server supports 16 to 96 asynchronous serial lines. Networkinterfaces include 10-megabit Ethernet, 9.6 KB to 4.0 MB synchronousserial. Synchronous serial encapsulations include DDN X.25, PDN X.24,LAPB, or HDLC. Asynchronous lines can support terminals, modems,printers, and personal computers running SLIP. Standard networkprotocols are supported.
